The Asian American 88 is a list of inspiring young Asian Americans.
It's not easy being Asian American. Growing up, we were told that success in America meant becoming a doctor, lawyer, or engineer and working twice as hard as white people. To this day, we continue to face harassment, fetishization, emasculation and harmful stereotypes like the model minority myth and the perpetual foreigner.
We began this project in 2015 to document and celebrate the young people who are pushing the boundaries of the Asian American experience. These individuals have inspired us with their fearlessness and challenged us to define success on our own terms.
In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we are proud to introduce a new list of individuals for 2017 who are making their mark in their communities and the world.
